For most of his life, John Cronin completed his outfits with a pair of wild socks. His older brothers often asked dad, Mark Cronin, to curb their little brother's outrageous style. But John simply ignored them.

The 21-year-old Long Island man has Down syndrome. As high school graduation loomed, he began considering what he wanted to do with his future. He knew that he wanted to start a business with his dad but wasn’t sure what type. At first, he thought he wanted to have a “fun” store; though he wasn't sure what he would sell. Then John thought a food truck seemed cool.

“One of the problems, me and my dad, both can’t cook,” John said. “Both of us are good at eating.”

But then John realized that he could turn his love of socks into a business.

“I wanted to do something fun and creative,” he said.

In November 2016, John and Cronin settled on the name of the business, John’s Crazy Socks, and designed a website and logo.

During 2017, John's Crazy Socks pulled in $1.75 million in gross sales, representing 42,710 separate orders. The online store sells 1,500 different kinds of socks, giving shoppers a lot of options from which to choose. Their inventory includes colorful variants of classic shapes including no-show, ankle, crew, knee high, and above the knee socks.

John's Crazy Socks also now employs a dozen full-time staff members, eight of which have some form of diagnosed disability.

HAPPINESS THROUGH SOCKS.
John's Crazy Socks four principles for business success:

1. Inspiration: Showing what’s Possible

2. Giving Back: 5% of earnings donated to the Special Olympics

3. Socks You Can Love: Over 1,2000 awesome socks choices

4. Gratitude: Every package has a thank you note from John and some candy

Buy low, sell high. It’s a simple idea that a bored accountant used to create a multi-million dollar business, and one that he says you can replicate as a side-hustle. Ryan graduated from college, pursed a career in accounting and quickly found himself wanting more in life. It started while in college, Ryan started shopping for sales in popular retail stores and buy items in bulk. But instead of purchasing what he liked, Ryan came armed with a secret weapon...an Amazon seller's account and his phone.

Ryan Grant Retail Arbitrage

Ryan would find sale items in Walmart, Target and Toys R Us, then used the Amazon seller app to compare them to online prices.

Eventually In 2013 Ryan quit his full-time job paying over $50K per year to pursue making a full time income selling online. His business now does over 7-figures in sales per year and he sits down with the Marketplace to discuss just how he did it.

J.R. Tolver isn't what's considered to be the standard ex-"jock" or the statistics that tend to go with them. A new study says that 16 percent of NFL players will go broke within 12 years of retirement. The findings are markedly different from a 2009 study that put the number at 78 percent just two years after retirement.

Regardless what the percentage is, some people don't plan to fail...they fail to plan. In some respect they're not just talking about money in terms of being "broke". This also includes in spirit.

J.R.'s spirit and drive remains strong and he attributes that to the way he was raised and the example set by his father. So by the time his playing days in the NFL were over, he knew what he had to do next. He earned both his Bachelors and Masters...with that and the connections he made during his playing days, he set a plan in motion. You have to respect the grind!

In this interview J.R. and I cover his journey;

Our guest is Robert “Brix” Glover, 🍕Ex-Fat Boy, 🎥YouTuber, owner and founder of Brix Fitness. Four years ago he made some critical changes that not only transformed his body, but his entire life and the lives of those he has trained…including myself.

Tipping the scale at 346 pounds with high blood pressure and being borderline diabetic didn’t persuade Robert to change his lifestyle. Neither did his inability to walk a flight of stairs without feeling faint. In his defense, he had ventured out on many weight-loss journeys before but first, second and third attempts failed. His addiction to unhealthy foods was always his downfall and he had become the ultimate yo-yo dieter.

It wasn’t until January 2013 when a close friend who was the same age as he, died of health problems associated with being severely overweight. And soon after, Robert made the decision to adopt a healthy lifestyle, forgoing all lose-weight-quick schemes. In his new love affair with perfect health, Robert was moved to create Brix Fitness, which relies on principals based on a realistic approach to health and fitness.
